Direct Experience is Everything
Experience is king
If I told you the reason you feel lost in life is because everything you do, say, want, and even are is based on the experiences of others, would you believe me?
If that made you pause, keep reading.
Embarking on a spiritual and personal development journey means you're constantly evolving—if you're doing it the right way, that is.
But here's the thing: after reading all the books, watching all the videos, attending seminars, taking courses—you start to realize these things alone aren’t enough. At some point, you hit a wall.
Learning is multi-faceted, but one of its highest forms is gaining wisdom from your own direct experience.
For me, psychedelics were a profound teacher in this. Now, I know a lot of people dismiss psychedelics as “unearned wisdom,” and honestly? That’s a load of nonsense. Most of the folks who say this haven’t actually experienced them enough to have a proper judgement.
Psychedelics take work. You can’t just pop a pill and expect instant answers. Planning your trip, integrating the insights—it all requires emotional labor. To call it “unearned wisdom” is a lazy misunderstanding.
Anyway, I’m done ranting. Let’s get back to experience. You see, experience is everything. And that’s the point I’m trying to make here.
Think about how often we judge, ridicule, fear, or even outright dismiss things we’ve never actually experienced ourselves. It’s easy to talk about something when you haven’t walked that path.
The internet makes it even worse. We’ve all seen it: people typing away, commenting on things they’ve never done. It’s easy to be a “keyboard warrior,” sitting behind a screen, making logical arguments that, frankly, have no basis in real-world experience. What happens over time is that you lose touch with reality. Social media has become a toxic cesspool, and it’s more important than ever to navigate it mindfully.
Humans are like sponges—we absorb the behaviors and attitudes in our environment. And let’s face it, the internet is a huge part of our environment these days. So when it’s flooded with negativity, cynicism, ideologies, and ego-driven nonsense, it’s on you to filter through the chaos.
The truth is, a lot of the things you consume online are just bullshit. And when you start believing that bullshit, you end up convincing yourself that your own bullshit is somehow “right.” My advice? Stop the cycle. Stop feeding into the nonsense.
When I say nonsense what I mean is things that are a net negative on your life. I love bantering, bullshitting, and talking nonsense. Quite frankly it’s one of my favorite things in the world to do. But I don’t do it in a way that undermines my connection to life.
Rewiring your mind to live from direct experience takes effort, but it’s worth it. For example, someone might tell you being an entrepreneur is a bad idea—or a great one. But the truth is, you won’t know until you try. You have to dive in and experience it for yourself. Anything else is just noise. Maybe you’ll love it, maybe you’ll hate it, but as long as you’re learning from your own experience, that’s what matters.
This is the first edition of my newsletter, where I’ll be sharing insights from various sources—whether it’s from personal experiences, socializing, books, psychedelics, or just life in general.
If you found any value in this and want more of it, I encourage you to subscribe to my newsletter!
Peace,
