What’s “Normal” Is Highly Dysfunctional

What’s normal in society is highly dysfunctional.

Back in 2020, I’d say I had my first true spiritual awakening. I had been meditating and doing visualization practice for about a year, and one day I woke up and was aware of my thoughts.

There was a clear distinction between someone watching my thoughts and someone thinking my thoughts.

This satori-like experience continued for about a week, then it settled down—but from that point on, it became clear that my life would never be the same.

To this day, I have had multiple experiences like this that drastically transformed my life and consciousness.

One insight I’ve had from these states is that most things that are normal in society are highly dysfunctional.

You may be asking, “But, Koby, what do you mean?”

Here are some examples:

Examples of What We Call “Normal” (That Are Actually Toxic)

  • Divorce

  • Fast food

  • Abusing alcohol

  • Excessive marijuana use

  • Being high all the time

  • Constantly overworking

  • Destroying your health for “success”

  • Arguing

  • Judging others

  • Thinking you’re right about everyone

  • Doomscrolling

  • Doing work you hate

  • Numbing out with TV

  • Sucking on society’s tit (not providing any value and doing the bare minimum)

  • Drug abuse

  • Toxic products

  • People-pleasing

This doesn’t mean I’m above all these things or that anyone has to be. I’m as guilty as anyone else—but that doesn’t change the dysfunction.

Becoming a free and creative human being and reaching your full potential is about cutting through society’s bullshit and dogma and living on your own terms.

Society’s Dysfunction Disguised as Normal

The reason most people can’t see their dysfunction is because they’re entrapped in it.

They don’t create the space or time to reflect on it, and this is because they lack awareness.

All problems can be seen as a lack of awareness.

It’s important to understand: behavior is taken on from your environment. For an individual to have healthy behavior, they must be in the correct environment.

In a certain sense, being dysfunctional isn’t an individual problem but a societal problem.

That’s why the world is how it is. It’s not because people are evil—it’s because people adapt to dysfunction without realizing it.

This is bigger than one political side or the other.

Conservatives are right about personal responsibility.

Liberals are right that not everyone has the same access to opportunity.

Both truths matter.

Yes, you can rise above. I have. I continue to.

But not everyone is starting from the same place.

That’s why we need both personal transformation and systems that don’t keep people stuck.

Is It Your Life?

The greatest mistake anyone can make is having something or someone choose and create their life for them.

They don’t see the value of their LIFE. Hence, they waste their time and energy on stupid activities that get them nowhere.

The problem is when you take what your culture tells you as the truth. Chances are your culture doesn’t know what’s best for you. What your culture wants is survival, and it’ll do anything for that—even if it means keeping you down.

The truth of survival goes for anything: religion, business, society, etc.

Don’t be a product of society. Be a product of your own creation and love for life.

None of this is about being “anti-mainstream” for the sake of being anti-mainstream. It’s about being true to yourself.

Seeing Through the Bullshit

The best way to see through society’s bullshit is to take a step back from it.

This is difficult because once you’re in it, you become attached to it. Almost like a lover. You don’t want to let go. But the only way to free yourself is to let go.

Proper use of psychedelics will show you what I’m saying in a profound way—so much that it hurts.

This is why psychedelics are illegal. They are the greatest threat to the survival of society because they give you the capacity to access higher states and deconstruct everything from religion to school to work.

Society as it’s currently built cannot function with psychedelics. Maybe in the future—but we’re far from that.

It’s kind of a bummer because alcohol has injured, killed, and ruined the lives of millions of people. LSD does the opposite, and there hasn’t been one recorded incident of death.

Alcohol is legal because it’s mild. It doesn’t make you free or give you insights into what it takes to be free. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol—but I appreciate what it can do (so much that I make my own).

Not many people actually question why they drink. The reason you drink is to let go of your mind. Anyone who denies this is lying to themselves.

The reason we do psychedelics is to not only let go of the ego but to expand our consciousness.

I’ve come across many people who drink and spout the phrase “don’t do drugs.” Do you not see the predicament they’re in? The reason they don’t see alcohol as a drug is because it’s socially acceptable. Alcohol is arguably one of the most dangerous drugs. This greatly limits your potential in life due to closed-mindedness.

Alcohol keeps people in control and in a low state. With proper use of psychedelics, it is nearly impossible to continue living like a slave.

And I get it—drugs are fun. I won’t lie. I’m not writing this to convince someone to stop drinking. That’s ridiculous. Like I said, I appreciate alcohol and have some sometimes. I’m just saying there are much better “drugs” than alcohol.

Going “Between Worlds”

A free individual is someone who can jump “between worlds.”

What I mean is that they are able to be a part of the world and enjoy it, but also step back and see it for what it is—which is a game. Or, as I like to call it, a blink in infinity.

Enjoy society and culture. It’s fun and it’s meant to be lived. Just don’t overly identify with it, and always make time for solitude so that you don’t get caught up in it.

Developing yourself into an independent and creative being and thinker is difficult and rare. Most people are sheep, so they will never do this—and then they’ll call you crazy for living and doing things outside of what the culture has programmed into them.

Don’t be afraid to be called crazy or weird for living true to yourself. Also, don’t be afraid to admit when you’re wrong—because society and the mainstream exist for a reason, and some things just work well.

Anyways, enjoy the world, take a break when needed, and always remember: it’s all a blink in infinity.

If you really want to be called crazy, watch out for my next newsletter on how I got rid of decades of mucoid plaque.

Peace,
Koby
